How to make “Soya” milk at home


This is the first of a series of “home entertaining with ease” I will like to feature on occasion in the next little while. I have here homemade soy milk and banana bread.

Soy milk
Ingredients
  • 2 cups soy beans
  • sugar to taste

Directions

  • In a large bowl, cover the soy beans with water. leave to soak for 10-12hrs
  • Remove the water and rinse out the beans
  • Pour the washed beans into a blender, add  in 4-6 cups of water. Blend until smooth 
  • Sieve the mixture through a cheesecloth or local sieve , discard the shaft. Remove any excess foam
  • Set a large pot over medium heat, add the sieved mixture
  • Stir continuously until the milk starts to boil. boil for 10-15 minutes
  • Removed from heat and set aside to cool
  • Add sugar to taste . Serve cold

Banana Bread
Ingredients

Wet ingredients

  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup vegetable or canola oil
  • 3 Overripe bananas
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup liquid milk

Dry Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1+ 3/4 cups all purpose flour (224gr)
  • 1/2 cup mix (Chocolate chips, nuts and or shredded coconut )
Direction
  • Preheat the oven to 300F
  • Mash up the banana until smooth, add in the other wet ingredients. combine
  • Thoroughly combine the dry ingredients
  • Combine the wet and dry batches thoroughly
  • Pour batter into a greased bread pan or in muffin tins.
  • Top the mixture with some more nuts, raisins or dried fruit if you desire
  • Bake  for 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes  or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean

Serve the chilled soy milk with a side of Bread.
