* No Juicer Required
For these recipes you will need a sieve, the lovely CoyIntrovert was kind enough to send me the Nigerian style sieve recently and I am forever indebted to her.
Ingredients:
1 dozen strawberries
Juice of 2 lemons
Sugar or fresh squeezed Sugar cane juice to taste
Direction:
- Put the strawberries in a blender, add 2 cups of water and puree until smooth.
- Place your sieve over a large bowl; pour the puréed mixture through the sieve. If using the Nigerian style clothe sieve, gently squeeze on the content of the sieve to remove left over juice otherwise use a big spatula to press the pureed mixture.
- Add 2-3 cups more water to the squeezed juice, add in the lemon juice, sugar and set in the fridge to chill.
Enjoy!!
Ingredients:
2 large size cumbers (cubed)
Juice of 2 limes
Sugar to taste
Direction:
- Put the cubed Cumbers in a blender, add 1 cups of water and puree until smooth.
- Place your sieve over a large bowl; pour the puréed mixture through the sieve. If using the Nigerian style clothe sieve, gently squeeze on the content of the sieve to remove left over juice otherwise use a big spatula to press the pureed mixture
- Add 2 cups more water to the squeezed juice, add in the limejuice, sugar and set in the fridge to chill.
Enjoy!
Ingredients:
3 large ripe mangoes (Peeled, seeded and cubed)
Juice of 1 orange (Optional)
Sugar to taste
Direction:
- Place the cubed mangoes in a blender, puree until smooth
- Place your sieve over a large bowl; pour the puréed mixture through the sieve. If using the Nigerian style clothe sieve, gently squeeze on the content of the sieve to remove left over juice otherwise use a big spatula to press the pureed mixture
- Add 2-3 cups more water to the juice based on your thickness preference, add the Orange juice and some sugar
Serve chilled
Variation: Puree the Mangoes with one ripe banana for a tropical juice blend.

Love this. I have been held back from making my own juices because I don’t have a juicer and I always thought that to make perfect juices, one needs a proper juicer. I would definitely try these recipes. Thankfully all the ingredients (including fresh strawberries which I recently found out are grown in Jos) can be found in Nigeria.
The North has food treasures.. try the recipes and let us know what you think.
